Christopher Kingston is the founder of Truckee.
He studied economics at Bowdoin College in Maine, then spent a season with the Tallac Hotshots — a 20-person wildland fire crew on Lake Tahoe. On the line, he saw what most executives never see up close: a small team, under real load, outperforming organizations ten times its size. Not because they were heroic. Because the roles were clear, the decisions were fast, and nobody was waiting to be told.
He moved to New York to join Tandem, a Thrive Capital–backed company, as an early operator — and watched the same principle play out in a fast-growing business. He then worked alongside family offices, evaluating where capital compounds and where it leaks.
Truckee runs on the same thesis. A small group with the right read on the terrain will beat a larger one every time. Read the ground. Name the two or three moves. Stay close to the work.
